The Complete Guide to Option Selling

James Cordier and Michael Gross

Read

What I am examining

I keep this as a book about how an option is sold, how the position is structured, and where the risk sits. I am not repeating its claims about returns.

The book's promises belong to the book.

I have written about this question in Why I Prefer Hedged Option-Selling Strategies Over Unhedged Directional Bets and What Trading Taught Me About Systems and Risk. Those notes are mine. They are not a review of the book.

My note

What I keep is the structure: how an option is sold, how the position is put together, and where the loss can sit. I use that as reading behind a preference for knowing the loss before the gain. I do not accept the book's claims about returns as a result of mine, and I am not publishing a rule from it.

Bibliographic note

James Cordier and Michael Gross, McGraw-Hill. I can confirm an earlier edition, ISBN 9780071442084; a second edition in 2009; and a 2014 third edition subtitled How Selling Options Can Lead to Stellar Returns in Bull and Bear Markets, ISBN 9780071837620. Sources disagree on the second edition's print ISBN, so I am not citing one. The copy I read is not recorded. The jacket and the Amazon link are the 2014 third edition, which may not be the printing I read.
